For most of us, there comes a time when we begin to trade late nights out at the bar for more chill nights in with friends over a delicious meal. But knowing that we prefer this kind of evening and executing it are two very different things.
When you peruse Instagram, it’s easy to find beautiful tablescapes and dinner party decor that make it seem like everyone’s an expert on throwing a stylish night in, but the reality is that a lot of us barely even know what a tablescape is, let alone how to style one to perfection. Even if you do know how to style one, you also need all of the supplies to execute it, like matching dinnerware, centerpieces, and tablecloths, which many of us don’t have (or even want) at the ready.
Well, a new startup company based in New York aims to make your dinner party dreams come true. Social Studies is a lot like Rent the Runway but for dinner parties. Currently, the company offers 18 rentable tablescape sets that include everything you need to throw a highly-Instagrammable soiree.
The sets all feature a unique theme, with some aligning with a season or holiday, like Halloween, and others drawing inspiration from particular aesthetics, such as minimalism or hygge. There are even set-ups inspired by artists, like the Color Block, which offers everything you need for a Mondrian-themed party.
And the sets don’t stop at the basics—they offer everything you’ll need, and we mean everything. For instance, the aforementioned Color Block set comes with color-blocked melamine plates accented with black flatware and candle holders in addition to glasses, tumblers, menus, place cards, and fun art supplies and a colorable runner that align with the artist theme. You can also choose to customize your menus and place cards or order blank ones that you create yourself.
Each set ranges from $30-$50 per person, but the memories they create (and storage they save) make it well worth the cost. Currently, the company only serves New York City and the Hamptons, but it plans to expand to major cities throughout the U.S. within the next year or two, so be sure to keep an eye on it in the coming months. Below are a few popular set-ups to give you an idea of what this company brings to the table (literally).
