There’s an endless stream of holiday festivities in San Francisco, but few are as unique as the Great Dickens Fair & Victorian Holiday Party. The folks responsible for the popular, 25-year Renaissance Pleasure Faire at Black Point, Red Barn Productions, are behind the event, which started in 1970 and features a Victorian and Charles Dickens theme.
This one-of-a-kind event takes place in 120,000 square feet of music halls, pubs, dance floors, and Christmas shops every weekend from November 17th to December 23rd. When you attend the event, you’ll be greeted by hundreds of players in London-Victorian garb, recreating a twilight evening in Charles Dickens’ London Town.
You’ll meander through winding lanes and meet costumed characters you’ll recognize from literature and history who are eager to transport you into a fantastical world. And what a fantastical world it is, with charming, lamplit shops featuring handmade gifts, street vendors joyfully hawking their wares, and plenty of delicious grub to satisfy any appetite.
The event features seven different stages where you can take in compelling performances, partake in holiday games, and get down on the dance floor. And once you work up an appetite taking in all of the entertainment, you can enjoy a wide range of international cuisine, like English bangers, Greek delicacies, and French onion soup. Then, wash it all down at one of five pubs offering craft beer from local breweries.
Not only is this an entertaining way to spend the day; it’s also full of unique gift opportunities for your loved ones. The London-inspired shops sell everything from fine art to romantic clothing to sparkling jewelry, so it’s a great destination to fulfill your holiday shopping list.
Where, When, and How Much
The event takes place every weekend from now until December 23rd and it costs $30 for everyone aged 13 and over or $14 for children aged 5-12. Have little kids under 5? They’re welcome to attend for free. You can purchase tickets here.
The event is located at Cow Palace Exhibition Halls, 2600 Geneva Avenue, Daly City. Parking costs $12 for the day or you can take the BART for a fraction of the cost.
