The Eclectic and Sophisticated Designs of Kelly Behun

Written by Kelly Weimert on Friday, November 16th, 2018 at 1:05pm.

Eclectic, chic, and sophisticated are all apt words when viewing interiors designed by Kelly Behun. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Behun attended the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to New York to work at hotelier Ian Schrager’s design studio.

During her time with Schrager, Behun cultivated her eye for design while working under esteemed designer Philippe Starck. She and the team designed iconic interiors, such as the Mondrian in Los Angeles, the Delano in Miami, and the Paramount in New York City.

After honing her chops at Schrager’s design studio, Behun ventured out on her own, establishing the now incredibly popular Kelly Behun Studio. Behun’s aesthetic is both chic and eclectic, incorporating modified furnishings and stunning designer pieces with unconventional details and vintage treasures. Rather than adhere to a distinct style, Behun relies on her instincts and her clients’ personalities to create one-of-a-kind spaces that are as harmonious as they are compelling.

A throughline that you’ll find in nearly all of Behun’s designs, though, is an array of artwork. She maintains a strong connection to the art world and showcases works from established and emerging artists in most of her spaces. Behun told Architectural Digest, “On a fundamental level, art is such a personal thing, so when you weave it into an interior, it really makes it feel more like a home.”

Given her unique talent, it’s no surprise that her ever-growing clientele features high-profile giants across a range of industries, from technology and business to entertainment and politics. And her work has been featured in endless publications, including Vogue, Elle Decor, The New York Times, and Architectural Digest, just to name a few.

We pulled a few of our favorite Behun-designed spaces to give you an idea of just how talented this popular designer is.
