The annual CES show first took place 1967, bringing together global innovators in consumer technology to showcase of-the-moment tech, from videocassette recorders in 1970 to satellite radio in 2000, all the way to now with the invention of the smart home.
More than 4,500 exhibiting companies, including developers, manufacturers, and suppliers of consumer tech, showcase their products to more than 180,000 attendees from 150 countries. The event also features more than 250 conference sessions for attendees to engage with the innovators and the technology they created.
Smart Home Technology
Of course, for us, one of the most exciting aspects of this annual event is the smart home technology that it’ll be exploring and showcasing this year. Technology is allowing homes to take on a virtual life of their own, becoming smarter and more efficient, largely due to their integration with tablets and smartphones.
More specifically, technological innovations, like cloud computing, platform technologies, artificial intelligence, and mobile solutions, are accelerating the creation of home technology products that offer simplicity, security, and energy-saving techniques to homeowners.
For example, wall-mounted touchscreens can provide you with an all-in-one place to manage daily activities like playing music, dimming lights, or viewing livestreams. Meanwhile, comfort and security technology allows you to activate your thermostat or preheat the oven from afar while security systems show everything that’s going on inside and outside of the home from anywhere at any time. In fact, you can even get your refrigerator to tell you when you’re running low on certain food items. Basically, smart homes are making what was once reserved for cartoons like The Jetson’s a reality.
Where and When
If you’re interested in staying on the pulse of smart home and other innovative technology and you’re affiliated with consumer technology in some way (the trade-only event isn’t open to the general public), then consider attending CES 2019. The massive event takes place in Las Vegas on January 8-11 in 11 official venues that are grouped into three geographical areas: Tech East, Tech West, and Tech South.
To maximize your smart home knowledge, you can attend such conferences as Connecting Objects, Homes and Cities on January 8th and New Habit: Smart Speakers & a Voice-Activated Life on January 7th, both of which take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Click here to register for the event.
Even if you don’t attend the event, though, it’s a good idea to keep your eye on it as exciting, widely applicable innovations never fail to come out of it.
