The AIA Conference on Architecture in Las Vegas is a must-attend for design and architecture influencers, professionals, and enthusiasts. It features an extensive roster of seminars, workshops, and tours that provide attendees with new skills and insights. Plus, it hosts a ton of events and parties, making it easy to cultivate new connections and expand your industry network. This year the conference takes place June 6-8 and the A'19 theme is, Blueprint for a Better Future.
The more than 150 seminars run the educational gamut, covering everything from the history of the fire escape to how to grow an architecture firm. One notable seminar is Artificial Intelligence (AI) is Changing Architecture: Are You Ready? The seminar discusses how the rise of AI technology is influencing architecture and how to capitalize on its potential.
Another interesting seminar, Engineering Wonders: Hoover Dam & Mike O'Callahan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, delves into the makings of one of the most impressive engineering feats in the world. Attendees will soak in views from the Memorial Bridge before venturing down to the Hoover Dam to learn about its history and tour the power plant located 530 feet down into the dam.
In addition to endless seminars, there are a ton of different tours you can take to learn more about local architecture and design. For example, the Aria Resort & Casino Tour covers the programming, planning, design, and operational considerations for the only LEED-Gold-certified integrated resort on the Las Vegas Strip. You can also take a bike tour, Biking Las Vegas, which focuses on master planned developments like Fremont East, the Container Park, and Symphony Park.
Another cool tour, Sacred Spaces: The History, the Industry, the Architecture, the Art, takes you through sacred sites in Las Vegas and examines their unique architectural and design aspects. For instance, you’ll tour the Guardian Angel Cathedral, designed by Paul Williams, and learn about its A-frame mid-century style while beholding its beautiful, Isabel Piczek-designed stained windows.
Not only does the conference boast hundreds of learning opportunities, but it also offers close to 50 networking events and parties. The Opening Night Celebration features live music, food, drinks, and an opportunity to mingle with peers and member groups at the start of the conference. Meanwhile, the Emerging Professionals Party takes place at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel, which offers 360 views of the city in addition to complimentary food and drinks.
There are also themed events that cater to various demographics and interests, like a Practice Management Luncheon and a Women in Design Brunch. The brunch offers insights from industry leaders as well as a post-brunch mentoring cocktail hour that matches brunch attendees with a mentor or mentee.
And what's a conference without an expo hall? The Architecture Expo will feature 650+ exhibitors all showcasing their newest high-tech products, materials, and solutions. You'll also find live programming, demos, happy hours, and workspaces all in the Expo.
