When Nook Sales Experts match a buyer with their dream home, the only thing as important as architectural style is the neighborhood. That’s why we’re bringing you the #NookNeighborhoods series, where every Wednesday you’ll find cool history and culture to make sure you don’t overlook an area that could have the best nook for you.

There’s almost no better way to understand the feel and underlying vibe of a nook than by walking around, leaving the GPS in your pocket until you come to a neat little cafe or wine bar, then get your bearings before deciding on a new direction. The Brickell neighborhood in Miami is a wonderful place to find hidden joys, as the largest financial district in South Florida that is quickly growing to welcome its growing population.

Dade Heritage Trust hosts the Brickell Avenue North Walking Tour every first and third Saturday, beginning at their own historic headquarters on Terrace and Brickell Bay Drive. They focus on the architecture, history, and environment of the region. Its history component is key, as the development of high rises has replaced many of the initial residents. Even “Millionaire’s Row,” spearheaded by the Nook’s namesale Mary Brickell, lost many of its mansions to urbanization. The Walking Tour is one way that the residents can bring their architectural heritage to light and invite visitors to understand Miami's history more deeply. The Trust suggests you bring a tablet or phone to enhance the experience via their website resources as well.

Over the two hour tour, you’ll see Point View, one of Miami’s first subdivisions and visit its famous homes and families. Tour the homes still standing on Millionaire’s Row to learn how it’s developed over the years. Through the expertise of the Dade Heritage Trust, every visitor can understand how Brickell Avenue became the financial center of Miami, sharing stories and knowledge that only one intimately acquainted with their neighborhood can offer. Tour guides from the Trust have devoted their lives to shining a light on their very unique home, and it is that personal perspective to makes this tour a must do when you visit Miami.
