It would seem to be, if you follow the logic that, when Shaheen Sadeghi is buying into an area, it’s at least worth a (long, hard) look. The news broke this past week that Sadeghi, the mastermind commercial real estate developer behind The Lab and The Camp in Costa Mesa, and the Anaheim Packing House (in Anaheim, of course) had entered an agreement with the City of Garden Grove to build retail, office, cafe and market space near the Civic Center complex. Working title: The Cottage Industries Project.
According to Garden Grove’s City Manager, the concept is to create a small, mixed-use cottage community. Perhaps the coolest part of the deal, in our eyes, is the adaptive reuse component. Sadeghi’s company, LAB Holding, will be restoring existing residential properties (17 of them, including 12 single-family homes) to provide spaces for local vendors who reflect the fabric of the community. The properties are located on 7th, 8th and 9th streets, as well as on Acacia Parkway and Garden Grove Boulevard.
The plan is part of the city’s overall “Re:Imagine Garden Grove” campaign to revitalize the Civic Center area. We first took note of the campaign in 2014 as the City mounted its first Re:Imagine Garden Grove community event, which activated one mile of car-free streets in the heart of Downtown Garden Grove and included food, fun, art, and entertainment in a wonderful public space. We love that the City is taking a progressive and entrepreneurial approach to redevelopment as part of their master plan to improve pedestrian and bicycling conditions throughout the city, as well as to support the growth of local businesses.
Ready to take a look at Garden Grove real estate? After all, you’d be in good company! We created a custom property search of homes for sale nearby the new project site, which could be great investments. Click here to view those properties, or contact Katie Hughes of Nook Real Estate. She recently closed sale on a nearby Penthouse in Garden Grove, only a few blocks from the project site.
