7 Home Offices That Prove You Don’t Need Much to Create a Beautiful Workspace

Written by Kelly Weimert on Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 at 11:20am.

As you might have heard (every second of every day), we’re currently experiencing a global pandemic that’s requiring a whole lot of us to leave the office and create our own little workspace at home. And as much as we love the idea of doing work in our PJs on the couch, creating a stylish and inviting work-from-home area can do wonders for our daily motivation and productivity, especially during such uncertain times.

But if you’ve never had to think about designing a home office before, then it can feel a little overwhelming, particularly if you don’t have much space to work with. To make it way easier, we rounded up some of our favorite home offices on Instagram, which prove that you don’t need much square footage or time to create a work-from-home space that’s equally beautiful and functional.

When you’re working with small spaces, wall shelves are your best friend because they provide a place to add office essentials and stylish accents without encroaching on precious square footage. This sweet office space combines organic shelving and accents with a variety of textures to create a cozy and inviting home office out of just a few empty square feet.

One of the great aspects of working from home is that you can create a design that truly reflects your personal aesthetic and style sensibility. This ultra-feminine look may not work well in a corporate office, but it’s nothing short of lovely as a work-from-home space.

If you’re working from home with a partner and you’re pressed for space, then consider incorporating furniture with a minimal, airy design, like these rattan chairs with thin metal legs and pared-back desk. Then add a few extra-long wall shelves and a handful of storage solutions and you’re good to go.

Ever wonder what to do with that awkward space beneath the stairs? Wonder no more. It’s the perfect area to add a cozy work-from-home space. All you need are some shelves for office supplies, a simple desk and chair, and a picture or two to help define the space as its own.

When you’re creating your office, don’t be afraid to repurpose other furniture for its use. A living room shelving unit like this one is a great piece to put next to your desk as it offers extra space to store any office tools in addition to adding more opportunities for personality-enhancing decor.

Plants can improve everything from your mood to the air you breathe, so they’re a stellar addition to any home office. Plus, they just look really nice. Botanicals are an especially great complement to an aesthetic with lots of other organic materials, like wood and rattan, as this inviting space illustrates.

This charming set-up is a perfect example of just how little you need to create a stylish office retreat. If you don’t have the energy or time to add a ton of different decorative elements, then just get yourself a nice simple desk and a fancy chair, push a plant next to it all, and you’ll have a plenty compelling office area to work with.
